Box Score DALLAS, Pa. - Less than 24 hours after competing for 70-plus minutes in the longest contest of the season, Penn State Harrisburg's field hockey team saw its four-game win streak come to an end after being nipped by the slimmest of margins in a 1-0 setback at Misericordia on a rainy Saturday afternoon, Sept. 28.
The Lions (6-3) fought to keep the game scoreless for more than three and a half quarters but ultimately could not withstand the barrage of penalty corners awarded to the Cougars (3-5), particularly in the fourth period. MU was awarded corner after corner as the game wore one, finishing with a noticeable 17-2 advantage overall and an 15-0 edge in the second half.
The decider came midway through the fourth when Misericordia's Lily Metress finished off another corner insertion from Emily Ervin by lofting a rainbow attempt from the top of the circle over the outstretched pad of goalkeeper Macenzie Mulholland with 6:22 left to play.
Mulholland did all she could to keep her team within striking distance, making a career-high 17 saves on the day. Penn State Harrisburg's best offensive chance came late in the second quarter when Rachel Lane got off the team's lone shot on goal but MU goalkeeper Sarah Bogina was there to make the stop.
