Women's Volleyball Tripped Up at Lebanon Valley

Box Score

ANNVILLE, Pa. – Penn State Harrisburg's women's volleyball team wound up on the wrong end of a 3-0 decision at Lebanon Valley on Thursday night, Sept. 23. The Lions dropped the sets by scores of 25-19, 26-24, and 25-12 at LVC's Sorrentino Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Penn State Harrisburg (6-4) wrapped up its recent five-match road trip at Lebanon Valley, falling in straight sets to the Flying Dutchmen (6-5) on Thursday night.

The Blue & White fell behind 8-2 to begin the opening set but cut the deficit to 11-8 thanks to a kill from Emmaline Stevens off an Alyssa Snyder feed. The Dutchmen responded with an 8-3 run to create some breathing room before the visitors threatened with a 5-0 run that brought them to within four following blocks from Melanie Sheaffer and Anna Ruff. LVC answered with a 4-2 stretch to stop the threat and take the first set.

The visitors jumped out to an early advantage in the second set when a Corrinne Cook service ace capped a 5-0 run. After the Dutchmen pulled even, Penn State Harrisburg stretched the lead to 12-7 with another kill from Stevens off a Snyder assist. Things remained tight the rest of the way, with the Lions making it 22-20 thanks to blocks from Stevens and Ruff but LVC closed out the set on a 7-2 run to secure the second game.

With the momentum firmly in its corner entering the third set, Lebanon Valley used a pivotal 11-0 run midway through the game to put things out of reach before putting the finishing touches on the overall victory.
