Men's Tennis Opens Season With Win Over Etown

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – Penn State Harrisburg's men's tennis team opened the 2019-20 campaign with a hard-fought 5-4 win over local foe Elizabethtown at the Hoverter Tennis Complex on Sunday afternoon, Sept. 22.

 

The Lions (1-0) picked up two win in doubles action, as the team's top duo of Sachin Venkatesh and Damir Cuturic defeated the Blue Jays' top pair of Tyler Spinello and Evan Winters 8-4, while Nick Rohn and Austin Stehman teamed up to secure an 8-1 win over Etown's Tristan Boheim and Jeffrey Lapidus in the No. 2 contest.

 

Rohn added another win in singles play, topping Boheim 6-2, 2-0 in the second solo outing before the latter was forced to retire. Cuturic made quick work of Winters in a 6-1, 6-2 victory in No. 3 competition and Stehman clinched overall victory for the Blue & White with a back-and-forth 6-1, 3-6, 6-2 win against Alec Schneider in the fourth match.

 

Penn State Harrisburg is back in action at Alvernia on Thursday afternoon, Sept. 26.
