LATHAM, N.Y. – The United East released its All-Conference Awards last month, with both Penn State Harrisburg men's and women's tennis programs well represented in the post season accolades.
MTEN
The men's tennis team earned three Major Award Honors, including five All-Conference selections.
Cooper Wheeler was named Player of the Year, going undefeated in Conference play at the No. 1 singles position and No. 1 Doubles position with doubles partner
Damir Cuturic.
Ved Pawar made an immediate impact for the Blue & White, also not losing a conference match in singles or doubles play. Including non-conference play, Pawar was a perfect 13-0 in singles play on his way to earning Rookie of the Year.
Head Coach
Andrew Bookman earned Back-to-Back United East Coach of the Year Honors, leading the Lions to a perfect 7-0 mark in conference play. Bookman's success followed him into the postseason where the Lions hoisted the conference trophy for the third-straight year.
The Lions tacked on five All-Conference selections including Wheeler, Pawar, and
Damir Cuturic earning First Team All-Conference Singles nods. Wheeler/Cuturic and Pawar/
Colin Flack also earned First Team All-Conference Honors for doubles.
WTEN
The women's team also earned five All-Conference selections for their efforts this spring.
Ava Shepps and
Kiersten Strohecker both earned First Team All-Conference for singles and doubles, as the duo earned nine wins at the No. 1 doubles position.
Megan Strohecker was selected to the Second Team in singles play with nine solo wins at various positions in the lineup. In addition, she was selected to the Second Team in doubles with her partner
Karly Anderson. The pair earned 11 wins this season at No. 2 doubles.
Karina Ko rounded out the Honors with a Third Team All-Conference bid in singles, tacking on nine singles victories in the spring.
