HUGHESVILLE, Md. - Penn State Harrisburg men's and women's cross country teams turned in promising showings at the Seahawk Classic hosted by St. Mary's (Md.) at Oak Ridge State Park on Friday afternoon, Sept. 13.
The men's squad earned a third-place finish out of eight competing programs, while the women secured a fifth-place finish out of seven total teams.
Angel Patino led the way for the men in the 8K event, crossing the line with a time of 33:44.10, good enough to earn him a 14th-place finish out of 66 total runners. Zack Gibson followed closely behind in 18th place behind an effort of 34:34.70, while Jon Carnesi came home 20th with a mark of 34:51.60. Benett Seiler and Lucas Walthour were next in 31st and 32nd, respectively, while Tyler Price, Ian Fong, and Will Wang completed the group of Penn State Harrisburg competitors.
On the women's side, it was Destiny Samuels leading the charge for the Lions, as her effort 33:33.00 in the 6K race was strong enough to earn her a 19th-place finish out of 52 total runners. Melina Dhital ran a 36:13.20 to secure a 30th-place finish and Layna Horner followed closely behind in 36th place. Daphny Gomes, Taylor Nicholas, and Gabrielle Deitrich rounded out the Penn State Harrisburg contingency.
The Lions will look to build off Friday's effort at Lancaster Bible's Charger Invitational on Friday afternoon, Sept. 20.
