Women Earn Runner-Up Finish For Cross Country at Abington Invitational

ABINGTON, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg's men's and women's cross country teams took part in the Abington Invitational hosted by Penn State Abington on Saturday morning, Sept. 20. The women earned a runner-up finish out of 16 total teams, while the men finished seventh out of 15 competing programs. 


On the women's side, MaKayla Reichel continued her promising rookie campaign with another top-10 finish. The freshman came home sixth out of 76 total competitors thanks to a time of 26:49.45. She was followed by fellow first-year runner Margaret Cuthie in 13th place. Cuthie turned in an effort of 29:32.34 in just missing out on a top-10 mark. 


Four more runners in Stephanie Carreon (16th), Marissa Becker (19th), Melina Dhital (22nd) and Callie Shover (25th) each earned top-25 finishes, while Layna Horner rounded out the Penn State Harrisburg contingency in 40th place. 


On the men's side, it was Dominic Basselgia leading the way with a 26th-place finish out of 90 total runners thanks to a jaunt of 32:33.39. Teammate Zack Gibson also secured a top-30 finish, as his effort of 33:18.28 was strong enough for 29th overall. 


Ben Seiler came home 33rd, while Muhamad Meklachi and Kyle Davis finished back-to-back in 39th and 40th, respectively. Will Wang completed the Penn State Harrisburg group of runners in 58th overall.


The Lions will be back in action next weekend at the Dickinson Long-Short Invitational at Big Spring High School on Saturday morning, Sept. 27.
