Four Women Reach Double Figures In Victory Over Berks

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg's women's basketball team remained undefeated in conference play with a 108-57 victory over United East foe Penn State Berks at the Capital Union Building on Saturday afternoon, Jan. 6. 

 

Giahny Correa scored a career-high 30 points and had eight steals, while Malorie Eslick had her best game in a Penn State Harrisburg uniform with 25 points. Jayla Galbreath netted 20 points and Ali Lister was the fourth player to reach the double-digit scoring mark with a dozen points and a game-high seven assists. 

 

The hometown Lions (6-9, 3-0 United East) jumped out to a 21-0 lead to begin the game and led 27-9 after one thanks to seven points apiece from Correa and Lister in the opening quarter. Penn State Berks (1-10, 0-3 United East) settled down some in the second frame and cut the deficit to 16 at halftime behind eight points from Ashlyn Clark.

 

Eslick led the way after halftime and erupted for 13 points, including a trio of 3-balls, in the third quarter to help extend the lead to 76-47 after three quarters. Penn State Harrisburg's defense continued to press until the closing seconds, leading to 12 Penn State Berks turnovers, 25 field goal attempts, and a 50-point advantage after a final transition layup with 22 seconds remaining.

 

NOTABLES

- Penn State Harrisburg attempted 93 field goals on the day. 

- Correa scored a career-high 30 points on 28 attempts. She added eight steals, six assists, and four rebounds.  

- Eslick shot 50 percent from beyond the arc (5-of-10), finished with 25 points, and tallied five steals. 

- Galbreath netted 20 points to go along with three assists and a pair of steals. 

- Lister rounded out the double-digit scoring with 12 points. She also had eight rebounds, seven assists, and four steals. 

- Nicole Hernandez led the team with a dozen rebounds to go along with six points. 

- Bailey Oehmig finished with six points, four rebounds, three assists, and a pair of steals. 

- Mikayla Wright grabbed nine rebounds and dished out five assists. 

- Makayla Claggett added six assists and six steals. 

- Despite just four minutes of action, Des Michaels netted her first career points.
