Women's Basketball's Season Ends at Top-Seeded St. Mary's (Md.)

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. - Penn State Harrisburg's season came to an end in the quarterfinal round of the United East Tournament with a 70-58 loss at top-seeded St. Mary's (Md.) on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 21.

Lauren Moffatt led the Lions with a 19-point and 10-rebound double-double, while Nicole Hernandez tallied 10 points and seven boards, flirting with a double-double of her own. Mikayla Coleman chipped in 15 points and five steals and Brookelynn Carr added seven points and a team-high four assists.

After St. Mary's (21-5) earned a narrow 18-17 lead in the first quarter, the home team continued their momentum with 7-0 run to start the second frame. Just a few minutes later, Penn State Harrisburg (9-18) answered with a seven-point surge of their own, thanks to a pair of jumpers from Carr and a 3-pointer by Allison Metzgar. With a minute and a half remaining before halftime, Coleman scored two fastbreak layups off St. Mary's turnovers to put the visitors up by two. The Seahawks' Emma Fonke converted a layup of her own with 17 seconds remaining to knot the game up 31-31 at the break.

Although Moffatt had eight of the team's 13 third-quarter points, her effort proved not enough to halt St. Mary's dominate 21-point quarter performance. The Seahawks saw their largest lead of the afternoon with 57 seconds left in the contest when Marley Saunders converted a pair of free throws to bring the score to 69-56. Penn State Harrisburg was ultimately unable to close the double-digit deficit and concluded the 2025-26 season against the top-ranked Seahawks in the United East Conference Quarterfinals.
