Baseball Bests St. Mary's (Md.) In Shortened Contest

ST. MARY'S, Md. – Penn State Harrisburg's baseball team extended its recent win streak to a dozen with a 15-1 road victory over United East foe St. Mary's (Md.) that was halted after five innings due to weather on Friday afternoon, April 7.

 

Reigning United East Player of the Week Kevin Lehner hit a three-run home run, Carlos Irizarry had four hits and drove in three runs, Maddux Ryan had a three-hit outing, and Matt Parks scored four runs. In earning his fourth win of the season, starter Fisher Druck allowed just three hits and struck out six.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

Penn State Harrisburg (19-5, 10-0 United East) scored early and often in a 15-1 win over the Seahawks (6-10, 4-5 United East) on Friday afternoon.

 

The Lions opened the scoring when Parks drove in a pair of runs with a double to right field in the top of the first inning. Irizarry eventually drove him in with a two-out single through the left side to make it 3-0. The visitors kept rolling in the third, with Ryan driving in Parks with an RBI single to right field and Josh Lantz plating Lehner with a sacrifice fly. Dallas Hite capped off the inning with a single up the middle that scored Ryan and Irizarry to increase the advantage to 7-0.

 

Irizarry added to the lead in the fourth when he singled with two away to push Parks across and make it 8-0. St. Mary's (Md.) got one back in the bottom half but Lehner responded in a big way in the next inning when he launched a three-run bomb over the fence in left field. Before the frame was through, Lantz, Irizarry, and Lucas Floyd all drove in runs to push the lead to 15-1.

 

Druck struck out the first batter he faced in the bottom half before completing the 1-2-3 inning with a ground out and fly out to end the game early.
