Women's Basketball Handles Wells

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – Penn State Harrisburg's women's basketball team used a complete effort to secure a 70-14 victory over United East foe Wells at the Capital Union Building on Friday night, Jan. 20.

 

Eleven players scored for the Lions (9-6, 6-0 United East), with Jayla Galbreath's 11 points leading the way. Jenna Montana and Mikayla Wright each added nine off the bench, while Ja-Shae McLean finished with eight.

 

Penn State Harrisburg set the tone early and hit four 3-pointers, including triples from Bailey Oehmig, Kendis Butler, and Montana in the opening quarter to race out to a 26-0 advantage after one. It was more of the same in the second quarter, with the home team netting the first 11 points of the frame before Wells (0-16, 0-7 United East) got on the scoreboard with 3:56 left in the first half.

 

The Lions continued to score in bunches in the third quarter, with a Macy Carroll 3-pointer closing out the stanza to make it 59-10. Ja-Shae McLean opened the fourth with back-to-back layups before Bailey Strawser added three straight points in the closing minutes to cap off the strong showing.

 

NOTABLES

- Galbreath finished with a game-high 11 points on 50 percent shooting from beyond the arc.

- Montana also shot 50 percent from downtown en route to netting nine points.

- Wright went 4-of-5 from the field to record her nine points.

- McLean scored a career-high eight points off the bench.

- Oehmig posted seven points, eight boards, and four assists.

- Butler tallied six points and pulled down five rebounds.

- Carroll hit two 3-pointers off the bench to finish with six points.

- Strawser added five points and three boards in a reserve role.
