Lions Power To Win In CAC Opener

Harrisburg, PA. – The Penn State Harrisburg Baseball team used three home runs to power past Marymount in the teams CAC opener. Miguel Torres delivered a two-run home run in the first inning and Bret Williams add a three-run home run in the second inning building an early 9-0 lead. After Marymount pulled back within four runs, Ryan McSorley hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning putting the game out of reach.

Penn State Harrisburg: 15-4 Overall, 1-0 Conference

Marymount: 9-9 Overall, 2-2 Conference

 

How it Happened:

The Lions offense got off to a fast start in the first inning. After Bret Williams and Chase Smith reached base, Zachary Koroneos delivered a single to center field scoring both Williams and Smith. Miguel Torres followed that with a two-run home run to left field, putting the Lions ahead 4-0.

 

In the second inning, the Lions once again got runners on base for Ryan McSorley who crushed a double into the right center gap, scoring Justin O'Dell. Chase Smith followed with an RBI single to center, scoring Jackson Struve. Williams would then clear the bases, driving a three-run home run to left field and putting the Lions ahead 9-0.

 

Marymount would eventually get there offense going and slowly climbed back into the scoring in the 4th, 5th, and 7th innings to pull within three runs. The Lions would respond in the bottom of the seventh inning. After McSorely drew a walk and Williams was intentionally walked, Casey Winters singled to score McSorely. The Lions put the game out of reach in the eighth inning. After Tyler Smink and O'Dell walked, McSorely blasted a three-run home run off the hitting cages in left field, putting the Lions ahead 13-6.
