Penn State Harrisburg Sweeps Colonels at Home

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Middletown, Pa. – After claiming six straight wins over a nine day span, the Blue and White have lost back to back games and were looking to get back on track.  With two come from behind victories on Sunday April 26th, that is just what they did as they swept Wilkes 3-2 and 6-2.

In game one, it was Wilkes who threw the first punch of the day scoring two runs in the top of the second to gain an early edge.  The Lions struggled to find any source of offense early and needed a spark to get started.  This spark finally came in the bottom of the fifth when Cody Henry (Halifax, Pa. / Halifax) blasted a two run home run to left field to knot the game at two. Three batters later, Kyle Buchman (Orefield, Pa. / Notre Dame) doubled to left field allowing Mitchell Rodkey (Annville, Pa. / Annville-Cleona) to cross home and give the Lions a 3-2 advantage.  Harrisburg buckled down on defense the final two innings and walked away with a 3-2 victory in game one.

Game two started with the Lions getting on the board first.  Chris Iocca (North Brunswick, N.J. / N Brunswick twp) knocked in an RBI single bringing Tom Denniston (Harrisburg, Pa. / Bishop McDevitt) home to take an early 1-0 lead.  The Colonels got the equalizer in the top of the fourth inning to tie things up at one.  Wilkes took the lead the following inning off a Penn State error to take a 2-1 lead.  The Blue and White rallied with a five-run outburst in the sixth to regain the lead.  The run included key hits by Henry and Bryan Balshy (Palmyra, Pa. / Palmyra) and some assistance from two Colonel errors.  Harrisburg went on to take game two 6-2 to sweep the Colonels.

Penn State Harrisburg will travel to Messiah College Monday April 27th to take on the Falcons for a single game.  First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
