Men's Tennis Clinches CAC Berth With Win Over York

Box Score

After a tough first year in the Capital Athletic Conference, Penn State Harrisburg is back in postseason play.  The Lions capture their first ever CAC tennis playoff berth with a 5-4 victory over rival York College.

The Blue and White got the ball rolling early with two doubles victories.  Top doubles pairing of Chris Magee (Westminster, Md. / Manchester Valley) and Mitchell Ebersole (Donegal, Pa. / Donegal) were able to win a close match over the number one doubles from York 8-6.  James Moore (Lewisburg, Pa / Lewisburg Area) and Pawel Klos (Hamilton, N.J. / Hamilton) outlasted the final pairing of the Spartans 8-6 to give the Lions a 2-1 advantage heading into singles play.

Penn State Harrisburg knew in order for them to clinch the fourth seed in the CAC tournament, they must pull a victory off and this came down to the singles play of Tuesday's match.  The Lions took the first two singles matches with impressive wins by Magee and sophomore Johnny Xue (Blue Hill, Maine / George Stevens Academic) who won in the two spot, 6-2 and 6-2. The Blue and White ended up splitting the singles matches 3-3 but were able to walk away with a nail-biting 5-4 victory over the Spartans.

With Tuesday's win, Harrisburg will host the York Spartans again in the first round of the CAC playoffs which begin Saturday April 18th.  The start time for Saturday's match is scheduled for 11 a.m.
