Blue and White Suffer Loss to # 1 Ranked Salisbury

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Middletown Pa. - The Penn State Harrisburg men's baseball team had the opportunity to face off against the #1 team in the country on Monday March 30th.  Unfortunately the top ranked Seagulls proved they were worthy of the title sweeping the Lions with a 12-2 and 6-1 wins...full recap coming soon.

In game one, Salisbuy set the tone knocking home two runs in the top of the first inning and putting the Lions in the hole early.  Penn State Harrisburg struggled to put together any form of offensive momentum through the first six innings of play while the Seagulls continued to pour it on.  The visitors added nine more runs to their total, including a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth to all but seal the game. Harrisburg finally crossed the plate in the bottom of the seventh when Tom Denniston (Harrisburg, Pa. / Bishop McDevitt) was sent home off of a mental lapse by the Salisbury pitcher balking to allow the Lions to get on the board. Both teams added one more run over the final two innings to allow the Seagulls to take game one 12-2.

Game two, saw the tables turning in the home teams favor.  The Blue and White sent sophomore right-hander Kenny Mott (Green, N.J. / Pope John) to the mound.  Mott pitched an incredible first four innings of baseball for Harrisburg, pitching a no-hitter through four innings.  His no-hitter was finally broken up in the top of the fifth.  During Mott's impressive start, Penn State Harrisburg took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third when Kevin Kremer (Hershey, Pa. / Hershey) grounded out to first allowing Kyle Buchman (Orefield, Pa. / Notre Dame) to reach home.  The Seagulls bats finally awoke in the top of the sixth when the visitors scored four runs including a solo home run.  Salisbury added two more runs the following inning to take control of the game.  The Seagulls took game two, 6-1 to sweep the Blue and White on the afternoon.

Penn State Harrisburg will look to rebound from Monday's losses Wednesday April 1st when they take on Marymount at home at 3:30pm.  The Lions defeated the Saints 14-11 on March 19th.
