LANCASTER, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg's men's and women's track & field teams opened their 2024-25 indoor campaigns by competing at Franklin & Marshall's Diplomat Invitational on Friday afternoon, Dec. 6.
A pair of women's competitors in Katrin Cavanaugh and Destiny Samuels started the season with efforts that landed them on the program's record book. Cavanaugh finished third and set a new personal record in the pole vault with a top attempt of 3.05 meters. Her mark currently stands as the second best in program history. Samuels, a recent United East All-Conference Third Team honoree in cross country, picked up where she left off this fall with a fifth-place finish in the 800m. Her effort of 2:32.63 is the third-fastest time in program history.Â
Daphnny Gomes also secured a top-10 finish, propelling a leap of 4.40 meters in the long jump into an eighth-place finish. She was also the squad's top finisher in the 60m. Isabella McGuire was the team's top finisher in the shot put, while Gabrielle Deitrich turned in the top toss in the weight throw.Â
On the men's side, Jonathon Luo secured an eighth-place finish in the long jump behind his top leap of 6.02 meters. Nathan Cammauf just missed out on a spot in the 60m finals with a time of 7.22 seconds - an effort good enough for ninth place. Caleb Kendig had a top-10 finish, with his best effort of 12.42 meters in the shot put proving strong enough for 10th overall out of 46 total throwers.
Kadin Sodmont also came home 10th in the 200m thanks to a sprint of 23.87 seconds, while Matthew LaBarge just missed out on a top-10 finish, as his top attempt of 3.34 meters in the pole vault earned him a share of 11th place.Â
The Lions are set to return to action when they travel to Susquehanna for the River Hawk Invitational on Jan. 18.Â
