LA PLUME, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg's men's and women's track & field teams earned runner-up finishes at the United East Outdoor Championships hosted by Keystone over the weekend and MaKayla Reichel was named the United East Women's Co-Track Athlete of the Year and Co-Rookie of the Year for her efforts.
Both the men and women finished as the conference runner-up behind the eventual team champions from St. Mary's (Md.). In addition to Reichel's pair of co-major awards, Penn State Harrisburg athletes combined to win seven individual conference championships and earn 35 all-conference honors.Â
Reichel opened her weekend by winning the conference title in the steeplechase on Friday before taking silver in both the 5,000m and 10,000m races. Fellow rookie Shaeli McGeary also made her outdoor championship debut a memorable one, winning gold in both the triple jump and 100m hurdles. Katelyn Williams was the third women's athlete to secure a conference championship thanks to her efforts in winning the pole vault before adding silver in the javelin throw.
On the men's side, Uzee Ukattah and Landon Weldon led the way in the sprints, with Ukattah capturing gold in the 100m and Weldon winning the 200m championship. The pair added more medals when they combined with fellow sprinters Chase Oswald and Nathan Cammauf to win the 4x100m relay title.
