MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg's women's volleyball team opened the season with a decisive sweep of Elizabethtown at the Capital Union Building on Tuesday night, Sept. 1. The Lions earned the 3-0 victory thanks to set scores of 25-9, 25-16, and 25-18.
Camryn Wettstone led the way with a team-high 11 kills, while Brianna Ondishin Ribon finished with nine kills and seven digs. Kate Bukowski added a match-high 18 digs and Mackenzy Miller racked up 17 assists. Nicole Dos Santos and Ariana Pecunes finished with two service aces apiece.
Penn State Harrisburg (1-0) used a 13-2 run midway through the opening set to pull away and take an early overall lead after Mollie Shadle closed it out with an ace. The Lions held a more narrow 12-9 advantage in the second set but finished strong for the second straight time, closing things out on a 13-7 run that was punctuated by an Ondishin Ribon kill off a Miller assist. The Blue Jays (0-1) led early in the third but the home team used a 6-0 spurt to pull ahead and never looked back. Wettstone finished off the set and the match with a kill off another strong feed from Miller.
