Late Flurry Lifts Field Hockey Past Goucher In Overtime

BALTIMORE, Md. - Penn State Harrisburg's field hockey team fought back from an early deficit to force overtime before Astrid Comp put the finishing touches on a thrilling, 3-2 non-conference victory over Goucher with a goal just 38 seconds into the extra session on Sunday afternoon, Sept. 13.

Comp, Bailey Rucker, and Alysa McCarthy each recorded three total points on the afternoon thanks to a goal and an assist. Macenzie Mulholland also made eight saves in goal.

The improbable victory was made possible by an electric, game-tying goal from Alysa McCarthy off an assist from Bailey Rucker with just five seconds remaining in regulation. With new life and the score tied 2-2, Comp needed just a handful of seconds to put it away in overtime when she finished off a feed from McCarthy.

The Gophers (0-4) struck first with a goal late in the first quarter but Rucker came through with the equalizer off a find from Comp early in the second period. Goucher pulled back in front just 37 seconds into the second half and things looked bleak for the Lions (3-2) as the final minutes ticked away but McCarthy's marker in the closing seconds extended the contest just long enough for Comp to come through in extra time.
