Women's Tennis Tops Abington to Secure Fourth Straight Win

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg's women's tennis team made it four straight victories thanks to a 7-0 sweep of United East foe Penn State Abington at the Hoverter Tennis Complex on Saturday afternoon, March 28. 


Penn State Harrisburg (5-3, 3-0 United East) took an early lead by sweeping through doubles, with the top duo of Ava Shepps and Kiersten Strohecker handling Sevara Tursunboeva and Soniyah Youngblood 6-2. Karly Anderson and Megan Strohecker bested Juliana De Souza and Maman Saly Mbengue 6-2 in the No. 2 contest, while Karina Ko and Aubrey Gard made it 3-for-3 with a 6-0 win over Alyssa Thompson and Mia Hammoudi in the third outing. 


It was more of the same in singles action, with Shepps topping Tursunboeva 6-2, 6-3 in the top matchup, K. Strohecker handling Youngblood 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 2 matchup and Anderson holding off De Souza 6-1, 7-5 in the third matchup. M. Strohecker bested Mbengue 6-1, 6-2 in the No. 4 outing, Ko swept Thompson 6-0, 6-0 in the fifth and Rosalia Mannino finished off Hammoudi 6-3, 6-1 in the No. 6 contest. 


The Lions will look to stay undefeated in conference play when they travel to Penn State Berks for their next match on Tuesday afternoon.
