READING, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg's women's tennis team earned a 7-0 sweep of United East opponent Penn State Berks on Tuesday, March 31. The shutout is the second in as many matches for the Lions and their fifth straight win.
DOUBLES
The Lions picked up 6-4, 6-3, and 6-1 wins respectively on courts one through three from Shepps/K. Strohecker, Anderson/M. Strohecker, and Ko/Gard to take a 1-0 lead into singles.
SINGLES
The momentum carried over in singles as Harrisburg would win every match in straight sets. After taking set one 6-4, Shepps was down 0-3 in the second set before rallying for the 6-3 victory at the top solo spot. K. Strohecker won easily at the No. 2 spot 6-1, 6-0. On court three, Anderson found herself in a similar situation as Shepps, winning the first set 6-2 and facing an 0-3 deficit in the second set. Anderson rallied back for six straight games for the 6-3 second set win.
M. Strohecker, Ko, and Mannino all won on courts four-six by scores of 6-3, 6-1, 6-2, 6-1, and 6-1, 6-0 respectively to complete the conference sweep.
The women will travel to Allentown on Saturday for a conference showdown with Cedar Crest at 1pm.
