MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg's women's team defeated conference opponent Penn College 6-1 on Wednesday afternoon, March 25, to extend its recent win streak to three in a row.
The Lions (4-3, 2-0 United East) raced out to an early lead thanks to victories in the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles matches over the Wildcats (2-7, 1-1 United East).
Ava Shepps and
Kiersten Strohecker edged Ellen Buckley and Leah Vest 7-6 in the top contest, before
Karly Anderson and
Megan Strohecker topped Kiera Wene and Cierra Miller 6-4 in the second match.
Karina Ko and
Aubrey Gard tallied a win by forfeit in the No. 3 spot.
The momentum carried over into singles competition, with Shepps besting Buckley 6-3, 6-3 in the No. 1 slot and K. Strohecker fighting to a 6-1, 2-6, 10-7 victory over Vest in the No. 2 contest. M. Strohecker went over Miller 6-0, 6-4 in the fourth spot, while Ko and Rosalina Mannino earned a win by forfeit each for the home team. In the No. 3 outing, Anderson fell to Wene 6-1, 6-0.
Penn State Harrisburg is set to face off against Penn State Abington on Saturday afternoon, March 28 for another United East Conference matchup at the Hoverter Tennis Complex.
