MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg's women's tennis team was strong up and down the lineup in a 6-1 victory over non-conference opponent Alvernia on Tuesday afternoon, March 24.
The Lions (3-3) only needed two wins in doubles action to get the overall point and the No. 2 and No. 3 hometown duos did all they needed to make that happen in their respective matchups.
Karly Anderson and
Megan Strohecker went over Adelynn Steffy and Jennah DeGout 6-2 in the No. 2 spot, while
Karina Ko and
Aubrey Gard topped Nicolina Schlesser and Grace Dobrzynski 6-2 in the No. 3 matchup. In the top contest,
Ava Shepps and
Kiersten Strohecker dropped a 6-4 decision to Alvernia's Jillian Laughman and Jamielyn Kelley.
The Golden Wolves' Laughman ended the day undefeated, as she bested Shepps 6-0, 6-2 in the top pairing. Despite the No. 1 contest setback, Penn State Harrisburg secured five of the six singles matchups. K. Strohecker made quick work of Steffy 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 2 spot, while Anderson was similarly impressive in the No. 3 spot with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Kelley. M. Strohecker picked up a 6-0, 6-1 victory over DeGout in the fourth solo match, Ko bested Dobrzynski 7-5, 6-0 in the fifth match, and
Rosalia Mannino defeated Jordyn Ingelido 6-2, 6-0 in the No. 6 contest.
Penn State Harrisburg has a quick turnaround as the squad faces conference opponent Penn College on Wednesday afternoon, March 25 at the Hoverter Tennis Complex.
