MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg's field hockey team used a pair of early goals to lock up its first-ever United East Regular Season Championship with a 2-0 shutout victory over conference foe Wilson on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 24.
Sadie Cook accounted for both goals, with Alysa McCarthy and Astrid Comp each recording an assist. Macenzie Mulholland made three saves in goal to preserve the team's eighth shutout of the season.
Cook set the tone and got the scoring started just 70 seconds into the game when she struck with a quick goal off a feed from McCarthy. The Lions (10-5, 6-0 United East) doubled the advantage later in the opening quarter when Comp pushed a ball into the circle and Cook got her stick on it to deflect the pass past Wilson goalkeeper Erin Sullivan and into the back of the cage at the 5:58 mark.
Mulholland made a save on Kate Seymour early in the second quarter to keep the Phoenix (5-8, 3-3 United East) off the board. Seymour got another good scoring chance midway through the third quarter but again Mulholland proved game in turning her away.
