MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg's field hockey team celebrated National Field Hockey Day by rolling to a 6-0 shutout victory over King's (Pa.) at the college's multipurpose turf complex on Saturday afternoon, Sept. 13.
Sadie Cook tallied five total points thanks to a pair of goals and an assist, while
Ami Mattingly continued her torrid pace to begin the season with two markers, matching the program's single-season for goals with nine.
Faith Musser and
Astrid Comp added one goal apiece, while Comp recorded a pair of helpers.
Mattingly got things going right away, scoring the game's first goal off a penalty corner insertion from Cook just two and a half minutes into the contest. The Monarchs (1-4) did their best to resist the opposing surge but Penn State Harrisburg (4-1) eventually broke through again in the second quarter when Musser stole a pass and finished it off with her first career goal in the 22nd minute. Before the half was through, Cook struck when she finished off a feed from Comp in the 27th minute to make it 3-0 at the break.
The Lions were back at it late in the third quarter, as Comp connected with Cook for the second time and the latter found the back of the cage for the second time. Comp finally broke through herself when she netted a goal early in the fourth quarter off a Musser find. Mattingly bookended the game's scoring when she stole an attempted King's pass deep in Monarch territory and fired an attempt past goalkeeper Elizabeth Samuel with less than five minutes left to play.
