FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - Penn State Harrisburg's women's soccer team fell to non-conference opponent Mary Washington 1-0 on Sunday afternoon, August 31.
The Eagles (3-0) scored the lone goal in just the 15th minute of the contest, as Skye Lawhun launched a shot over the head of Lions' goalkeeper
Alexis Valenta to put Mary Washington ahead early. Penn State Harrisburg's (0-1-1) defense was under attack from the beginning, starting when Maci Landel sent a bullet from the right side of the box that forced Valenta to make a diving save in just the first minutes of play.
Diana Pon was active offensively for the visitors, recording three shots, one of which was on frame. Before halftime,
Abigail Frew attempted a shot of her own that was just a little high above the crossbar.
The Lions had numerous scoring opportunities in the second half, but were unable to break through and get one on the board against the Eagles.
Mackenzie Mowery had a pair of back-to-back header attempts that were just high, while Olivia Srignioli saw her shot stopped by Mary Washington's goalkeeper Emily Orn. Despite five shot attempts and consistent defensive efforts, the score remained in favor of the Eagles to end the game.
