MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - The scoreless drought ended in a big way for Penn State Harrisburg's women's soccer team in a 4-1 non-conference over Susquehanna at the college's multipurpose turf complex on Wednesday night, Sept. 3.
Diana Pon broke out to the tune of two goals, including the game-winning score, while Julia Hughes and Serenity Hill each converted a marker. Ava Myers, Teagan Paragon, Ava Fox and Abigail Frew recorded one assist apiece.
The Lions (1-1-1) dominated time of possession for much of the first half before finally breaking through when Pon followed up a rebounded shot and put it into the back of the net with 6:32 left before the break. Pon struck again just before halftime, this time off a feed from Paragon, to double the advantage in the 43rd minute.
Penn State Harrisburg kept the pressure on to begin the second half and was rewarded when Hughes, the team's leading scorer a year ago, found the back of the net for the first time this season off an assist from Fox in the 58th minute.
The River Hawks (0-3) netted their first goal of the season 10 minutes later when Sydney Williams stole a ball just outside the box, turned and bent her shot into the back of the Penn State Harrisburg net.
Before Susquehanna could mount a substantial comeback, the Lions responded when Hill converted her first marker of the season after a header from Frew with little more than nine minutes to play.
