MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg's field hockey team opened the 2025 season with a decisive 5-0 shutout victory over Albright at the college's multipurpose turf complex on Friday afternoon, August 29.
Ami Mattingly had a sterling Penn State Harrisburg debut, recording a hat trick and adding an assist to tally seven total points. Bailey Rucker added a goal, as did Astrid Comp in her first game donning the blue and white.
The Lions (1-0) struck first in the game's eighth minute when Mattingly found the back of the cage for the first time. She opened the second frame with her second strike of the contest, this time off a find from Rucker just 38 seconds into the second period. Rucker got into the scoring act before the end of the first half with her first goal of the fall, this time off a feed from Mattingly in the 21st minute.
Penn State Harrisburg burst out of the gate to begin the second half with a pair of markers within a span of 45 seconds. Mattingly completed her hat trick in the 33rd minute off a helper from Faith Musser. Comp wasted little time pushing the lead to five, as she completed a penalty corner 44 seconds later off an insertion from Victoria Castano Colman.
The defensive unit was stout, with the likes of Alexis Nasuta, Sara Yeselavage and Anna Moyer keeping Albright (0-1) from getting off a single shot on goal.
