WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg's men's tennis team improved to 5-0 in conference play thanks to a 7-0 sweep over Penn College on Wednesday afternoon, April 9.
The Lions rolled to an early advantage by taking all three doubles matches, led by
Cooper Wheeler and
Damir Cuturic's 6-3 win over Penn College's Alexander Norris and John Finnegan in the top contest. The No. 2 team of
Peng Mark Hou and
Andrew Schreck fought to a 7-6 (7-1) victory against Kyle Shuler and Logan Ogden, while
Derwin Merca and
Kevin Liang topped Seth Priestman and Matt Williams 6-0 in the third matchup.
The trend continued in singles play, with Hou making quick work of Shuler in a 6-0, 6-0 victory in the No. 1 outing. Wheeler took care of Norris 6-1, 6-1 in the second contest, Cuturic earned a 6-2, 6-4 win in the third outing, and Liang handled Ogden 6-0, 6-2 in the fourth pairing. Merca came away with a 6-2, 6-0 win in the No. 5 matchup and
Clayton Herb grabbed a 6-4, 6-1 victory against Hunter Knosky in the final contest.
Penn State Harrisburg (10-5, 5-0 United East) hosts non-conference opponent Penn State Altoona on Sunday afternoon, April 13 at the Hoverter Tennis Complex.
