MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg's men's tennis team kept the recent win streak alive thanks to a 6-0 sweep over Penn State Berks on Tuesday afternoon, April 15. The senior day victory marked seven in a row for the Lions, as the squad remains undefeated in conference play thus far.
It was all Penn State Harrisburg (11-5, 6-0 United East) in doubles play, with
Cooper Wheeler and
Damir Cuturic combining for a 6-2 victory over Penn State Berks' Muhammad Esmat and Donovan Sullivan in the No. 1 spot.
Peng Mark Hou and
Andrew Schreck made quick work of Jazae Maina-Itegi and Joseph Martin to the tune of 6-1 in the No. 2 contest, while
Derwin Merca and
Clayton Herb earned the win in the third contest by forfeit.
The early success carried over into singles action for the hometown Lions, as Hou battled to a 6-3, 6-1 win over Esmat in the top solo contest and Cuturic secured a 6-4, 6-1 decision over Maina-Itegi in the No. 2 slot. In the fourth pairing, Schreck topped Martin 6-0, 6-2 before Merca's contest was left unfinished due to heavy winds in the third spot. Wheeler and Herb both had forfeit wins that contributed to the victory for Penn State Harrisburg.
The contest served as the program's senior day, as the Lions recognized
Derwin Merca and
Andrew Schreck for their commitment to Penn State Harrisburg men's tennis.
The Lions have their final regular-season conference matchup against Penn State Abington on Saturday afternoon, April 19.
