ABINGTON, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg's men's tennis team ended their regular season United East Conference play undefeated thanks to a 7-0 sweep of Penn State Abington on Saturday afternoon, April 19.
The Lions (13-5, 7-0 United East) went 3-for-3 in doubles competition, with
Cooper Wheeler and
Damir Cuturic earning a 6-4 victory over Tripp Mangifesta and Wenxu Gu in the No. 1 contest,
Andrew Schreck and
Peng Mark Hou besting Krishna Gurram and Anton Labas 6-4 in the second matchup, and
Kevin Liang and
Derwin Merca cruising to a 6-1 win against Trivikram Chitturi and Ulrich Commodore in the third outing.
The visitors continued to impress in singles action, beginning with Hou who battled to a 6-2, 6-7, 10-7 decision in the top pairing. Wheeler went over Gurram 6-2, 6-3 in the No. 2 spot, while Cuturic earned a 6-1, 6-0 win against Mangifesta in the third contest. Liang grabbed a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Labas in the No. 4 slot, Merca fought to a 3-6, 6-2, 10-7 decision against Chitturi in the fifth outing, and
Clayton Herb secured the sweep with a 6-5, 7-6 (7-4) victory over Commodore in the sixth singles match.
Penn State Harrisburg travels to Messiah for their final non-conference contest of the season on Thursday afternoon, April 24.
