St. Mary's City, Md. - Penn State Harrisburg's women's tennis team was edged by the slimmest of margins in a 3-4 setback against conference rival St. Mary's (Md.) on Saturday afternoon, March 29.
The Lions (7-5, 2-1 United East) took two of three doubles matches, led by
Anita Liu and
Sarah Shaub's 6-1 win over the Seahawks' Giselle Harris and Sarah Levit in the No. 2 slot. The third contest saw
Hailey Dey and
Carissa Fallon emerge with a hard-fought 6-3 decision against Lauren Lovejoy and Stella Manns, while
Breanna DeSantis and
Allison Wootton fell to Amber Manspeaker and Cleo Soloman 5-7 in the top outing.
Shaub worked hard to earn a 7-6 (7-2), 6-2 victory in singles action, defeating Lovejoy in the No. 5 matchup. Liu won by default in the third grouping, while Wootton was edged 2-6, 4-6 by Solomon in the top outing. DeSantis forced a tiebreaker against Manspeaker 6-2, 3-6, 1-6 in the No. 2 slot, Dey challenged Harris to a 7-6 (7-3), 4-6, 4-6 in the fourth matchup, and
Karina Ko was bested by Zoe Wilson 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 6 pairing.
Penn State Harrisburg will look to bounce back on their home court against Cairn for another United East matchup on Tuesday, April 1 at 3 p.m.
