St. Mary's City, Md. - Penn State Harrisburg's men's tennis team swept United East Conference foe St. Mary's (Md.) 7-0 on Saturday afternoon, March 29.
The Lions (7-5, 2-0 United East) won all three doubles matches, starting with
Damir Cuturic and
Cooper Wheeler who defeated the Seahawks' Jacob Nelson and Nick Rohr 6-3 in the top outing. The No. 2 duo of
Mark Hou and
Andrew Schreck held off Andrew Hand and Alex Lyman in a 6-1 victory, while
Kevin Liang and
Derwin Merca got the 6-2 win in the No. 3 slot.
The momentum carried over into singles competition, with Hou besting Rohr 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 1 spot at the top of the lineup. Wheeler took care of Max Esztergomi 6-2, 6-0 in the second contest, Cuturic went over Nelson 6-4, 6-2 in the No. 3 matchup, and Liang earned a 6-1, 6-3 victory in the fourth outing. Merca fought to a 7-5, 6-1 decision against Lyman in the fifth slot and
Clayton Herb secured the clean sheet with a 6-4, 7-6 win over Devon Gorel in the No. 6 matchup.
Penn State Harrisburg is back home on Tuesday, April 1 at 3 p.m. for another conference contest against Cairn.
