HILTON HEAD, SC – The Penn State Harrisburg men's tennis team wrapped up their spring break trip with matches against Western New England and Pfeiffer. The Lions battled against the Bears of Western New England but fell 3-4. They were then swept by Pfeiffer later in the week.
WESTERN NEW ENGLAND, 3-4
DOUBLES
Wheeler/Cuturic earned a hard fought 6-4 at court one doubles to take an early advantage against WNE. The Lions dropped court two doubles with Herb/Flack losing 2-6 while the team of McCarthy/Ahmed lost 0-6 on court three. WNE held the 1-0 lead heading into singles.
SINGLES
The Blue and White rallied strong in singles play, with
Cooper Wheeler winning 6-2, 6-1 on court one,
Damir Cuturic winning 6-3, 6-2 on court two and
Clayton Herb taking the victory on court four 6-0, 7-5.
Andrew Schreck lost on court three 0-6, 4-6 as the Lions led the overall match 3-2 with the final two matches to go.
Colin Flack fell 2-6, 5-7 on court six to even the match at 3-3.
Michael Rivino went the distance on court five and forced a ten-point tiebreaker for a third set. After battling point-by-point, Rivino would fall in the tiebreaker 7-5, 3-6, 9-11, as WNE took the match 4-3.
PFEIFFER, 0-7
On Friday morning, Penn State Harrisburg fell short to Pfeiffer 0-7 to wrap up their spring break trip.
DOUBLES
It was tough sledding in doubles as Wheeler/Cuturic, Flack/Herb and Schreck/Rivino lost 2-6, 0-6, and 1-6 respectively.
SINGLES
Wheeler and Cuturic battled on courts one and two, but each fell by a score of 3-6, 3-6. Schreck lost 1-6, 1-6 on court three and Herb lost 2-6, 1-6 on court four. Courts five and six went the way of Pfeiffer again, as Rivino and Flack both lost their respective matchups. Rivino dropped the #5 match 2-6, 2-6 while Flack dropped the #6 match 2-6, 1-6.
