HILTON HEAD, SC – The Penn State Harrisburg women's tennis team wrapped up their week at Hilton Head with a split against Alfred and Pfeiffer. After sweeping Alfred University 7-0 under the lights late on Wednesday evening, the squad dropped a tough 1-6 decision to Pfeiffer on Friday morning.
Women's tennis record stands at 5-3 after the spring break trip.
ALFRED 7-0
DOUBLES
It was a sweep of the doubles matches that started the Lions off with a 1-0 lead. Wootton/DeSantis won in a tiebreak 7-6(0), while Liu/Shaub and Dey/Fallon won 6-1 and 6-2 respectively.
SINGLES
Allison Wootton turned in a 6-2, 6-2 win on court one while Bre DeSantis won 6-2, 6-3 on court two.
Anita Liu won the first set 7-5 after facing an early deficit and won the second set 6-3 to earn the fourth point on the evening.
Hailey Dey, 6-3, 6-0,
Sarah Shaub, 6-2, 6-2, and
Karina Ko 6-1, 6-3 completed the sweep for the Lions on courts four, five and six.
PFEIFFER 1-6
DOUBLES
Wootton/DeSantis turned in a 6-2 win on court one, which would be the only doubles win on the afternoon. Dey/Ko lost their match 0-6 on court three setting up a decisive match on court two. It was a back-and-forth match but Liu/Shaub fell short 5-7, giving the Falcons of Pfeiffer the doubles point.
SINGLES
Allison Wootton was the lone winner on the day winning 7-6(5), 6-2, earning a point for the Lions.
Bre DeSantis lost her match on court two 1-6, 1-6 and
Anita Liu lost 1-6, 0-6 on court three.
Hailey Dey battled in the second set but came up short, losing her match 1-6, 4-6.
Sarah Shaub and
Carissa Fallon both lost their matches 1-6, 1-6 on courts five and six respectively.
UP NEXT
The Lions will host Gettysburg on Friday, March 21 for their first home match of the season. First serve is set for 3:30 PM.
