MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - In a game of runs, Penn State Harrisburg got the last laugh, using a strong fourth quarter to put things out of reach in a 78-68 conference victory over United East foe Penn College at the Capital Union Building on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 1.
Jordan Carpenter led the Lions with 26 points and added nine rebounds, four steals, and three assists.
Mikayla Coleman tallied 13 points off three triples, while
Sam Shaak and
Ali Lister contributed 12 points apiece.
The opening quarter was a back-and-forth battle between Penn State Harrisburg (15-6, 9-4 United East) and Penn College (11-10, 8-4 United East) that ended with the home team leading 15-14 thanks to seven first-quarter points from Shaak. In the second frame, the Lions extended the advantage by as much as 10 points at the five-minute mark after Correa scored a fastbreak layup and Carpenter added a pair of layups herself.
Even though Penn College went on a small run late in the third quarter to keep the Lions within striking distance, Penn State Harrisburg continued to put the pressure on the Wildcats throughout the second half. The late surge by the visitors was not enough to stop Carpenter in the final frame however, as she went 3-for-3 from the field and shot 80 percent from the foul line to tally 10 points to seal the victory for the Lions.
