Notre Dame (Md.) Proves Too Much For Women's Basketball

BALTIMORE - Penn State Harrisburg's women's basketball team ran out of gas in the second half of a 63-50 setback at United East foe Notre Dame (Md.) on Wednesday night, Feb. 5.

Jordan Carpenter was the lone player for Penn State Harrisburg to reach double digits as she posted her 13th double-double of the season with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Mikayla Coleman and Lauren Moffatt added nine points apiece, while Ali Lister tallied eight rebounds and seven points.

Penn State Harrisburg (15-7, 9-5 United East) got out to an 11-3 lead with four minutes to go in the opening quarter, thanks in part to a pair of triples from Moffatt and a jumper by Allison Metzgar. The Lions continued to keep the early lead in the second quarter before Notre Dame (Md.) (11-12, 9-5 United East) went on a 7-0 run to bring the contest to a 17-17 stalemate. Carpenter gave the visitors their last advantage of the night with a driving layup but Elena Rodriguez answered with a 3-ball late in the second quarter and the Gators would not trail for the remainder of the contest.

Carpenter tied the game once more 27-27 at the 7:16 mark in the third frame but Notre Dame (Md.) immediately answered with another seven-point rally to continue to put the pressure on the Lions. Despite numerous attempts by Penn State Harrisburg to claw back and narrow the lead, the visitors had no answer for the Gators' Amani Watts. Watts scored seven straight points in the back half of the fourth quarter which proved too much for the Lions to overcome in the final minutes of the contest.
