MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg's women's volleyball team moves on to the United East Semifinal Round thanks to a 3-0 sweep of Cedar Crest College in the conference's quarterfinal matchup on Saturday morning, Nov. 8. The Lions matched the single-season program record for victories with their 20th win.
Hannah DeGregory led the way posted a double-double, with 14 kills and 12 assists, to go along with four aces.
Mackenzy Miller was unstoppable from her setter position, tallying 21 assists on the day.
Camryn Wettstone added 11 kills, while
Kate Bukowski and
Nicole Dos Santos combined for 22 digs.
Cedar Crest (6-23) got ahead early in the opening set, but Penn State Harrisburg (20-5) found a five-point surge thanks to a trio of service aces by DeGregory and a kill from Wettstone to get ahead 8-5. The Lions continued to press the Falcons, going on a 10-0 run late, fueled by three aces by
Brianna Ondishin Ribon and a trio of kills from DeGregory, to lead the home team to a 25-10 set-one victory.
In the second set, Penn State Harrisburg set the tone early with a 4-0 rally to begin the frame. The hosts never conceded, leading for the entire set, with
Alex Jurney posting four kills to push the Lions to a convincing 25-11 decision.
The home team opened the third set with a strong start, as Ribon and
Tesia Oliva delivered powerful kills, giving Penn State Harrisburg the edge early. Cedar Crest attempted to counter, but kills by DeGregory and Wettstone, supported by M. Miller's assists, maintained the momentum for the Lions.
As the Falcons attempted to narrow the gap, Penn State Harrisburg responded with key plays, including a kill by DeGregory and a service ace from Bukowski. Despite some errors, the home team remained composed, ultimately closing the set with a kill from Dos Santos to secure the overall sweep.
