Volleyball Sweeps Cairn to Advance to United East Championship Match

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – Penn State Harrisburg women's volleyball team will play for its first United East Championship on Saturday afternoon after sweeping Cairn 3-0 in the conference tournament's semifinal round at the Capital Union Building on Tuesday night, Nov. 11. The Lions took the match by set scores of 25-9, 25-13 and 25-12.

Camryn Wettstone led the way with a dozen kills, while Mackenzy Miller racked up a match-high 21 assists. Penn State Harrisburg was stellar on the serve, tallying 13 total aces on the night.

The Lions raced out to a massive 16-1 advantage during a Briana Ondishin Ribon service run before Alex Jurney effectively put things out of reach with back-to-back aces in the closing moments. The second set saw Penn State Harrisburg build another big lead during a Hannah DeGregory service run, stretching the advantage to 9-1 following a kill by Emily Miller. The Lions extended the lead with a Wettstone kill that made it 18-7 before Jurney finished it off with a kill from a DeGregory feed. The third set was more of the same, as the home team led 8-2 early before creating more separation at 15-6 at the midway point. Four straight points during a Mackenzy Miller service run set the table in the late stages and DeGregory officially punched the team's ticket to the championship match with a kill of a Mackenzy Miller assist.
