MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - The record-setting 2025 season came to end for Penn State Harrisburg's women's volleyball team in the United East Championship game as they dropped a 3-2 decision to St. Mary's (Md.) on Saturday afternoon, Nov. 15.
Brianna Ondishin Ribon led the Lions with 17 kills, while
Hannah DeGregory followed closely behind with a double-double thanks to 19 assists and 15 kills.
Kate Bukowski poured in 20 digs and
Mackenzy Miller provided 25 assists from the setter position.
Camryn Wettstone added 11 kills for the home team.
Penn State Harrisburg (21-6) started off the opening set with a 6-0 run that was fueled with four straight attack errors by the Seahawks and a pair of service aces from Ondishin Ribon. Although St. Mary's (17-14) attempted to claw back throughout the frame, but it was the Lions' offense that held off the visitors, thanks in part to four kills from none other than Ondishin Ribon.
After the hosts secured the first set 25-19, Â St. Mary's fought to gain much-needed momentum, but Penn State Harrisburg found another six-point surge in their favor to bring the score to a convincing 17-6 lead. The Lions only allowed four more points for the remainder of the frame and earned a 25-13 second-set victory.
The third set was a back-and-forth affair, but it was an 8-0 Seahawks' run to end the frame that extended the championship match into a fourth set. The visitors continued their push with a 3-0 start in the fourth and never looked back, despite service aces by
Nicole Dos Santos and offensive tries from Ondishin Ribon, DeGregory, and Wettstone.
St. Mary's forced the title match to a fifth and final set, which began with the two squads trading points until the visitors went on a championship-clinching run that saw the Seahawks record eight-straight points to end the match 15-6 and secure their berth in the NCAA Tournament.
