Women's Volleyball Concludes Regular Season With Sweep of Hood

FREDERICK, Md. - Penn State Harrisburg's women's volleyball team finished the regular season with a 3-0 sweep of non-conference opponent Hood on Saturday afternoon, Nov. 1.


Camryn Wettstone led the Lions with 13 kills, while Hannah DeGregory earned a double-double with 10 kills and 10 assists. Mackenzy Miller tallied 16 assists from her setter position and Kate Bukowski protected the visitors on defense with 13 digs. Nicole Dos Santos impressed with six service aces against the Blazers.


The Lions (19-5) began the first set with strong play, quickly turning a 2-0 deficit into an 8-2 lead. DeGregory and Wettstone delivered crucial points, and Ondishin Ribon added service aces to extend the advantage. Despite Hood's attempts to close the gap, including kills by Anna Daley and Cam Madden, the visitors closed the set decisively at 25-11, establishing a commanding position early in the match.


In the second frame, Penn State Harrisburg capitalized on a series of Hood (6-19) errors and strong serves to take control early on. Midway through the set, Hannah DeGregory contributed significantly with a kill and a service ace, while Nicole Dos Santos extended the lead with four consecutive service aces, pushing the team's advantage to 16-4. Alex Jurney and Emily Miller added kills, further enhancing the lead and the frame concluded with Wettstone's kill, followed by a service error from the Blazers, sealing the 25-8 victory.


Penn State Harrisburg opened the third set with a kill by Wettstone from Tesia Oliva and the visitors maintained momentum with consistent contributions from DeGregory and Miller, who combined for multiple kills and a service ace, extending the lead to 9-5. Despite this strong start, the Blazers responded with a 7-0 run to turn the tides in their favor and get ahead 14-11. The Lions regained control by exploiting Hood's errors and clawed the whole way back to knot the game up 20-20. In the closing stages, the visitors surged ahead, fueled by a service ace from Ondishin Ribon and a kill by Wettstone to secure the set 25-22 and the 3-0 sweep to close out the regular season.

Penn State Harrisburg earned the top seed in the upcoming United East Championship Tournament with a 9-1 conference record and will begin playoff action on Saturday, November 8 in quarterfinal action.
