MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – Penn State Harrisburg's field hockey team set a new single-game record for goals scored and extended its program-record win streak to seven in a row by opening conference play with a decisive 9-1 victory over United East foe Lancaster Bible at the college's turf complex on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 4.
Ami Mattingly reset her own single-game program record for total points, recording eight on the day thanks to a hat trick and a pair of assists.
Bailey Rucker and
Alexis Nasuta each netted a pair of goals,
Astrid Comp had a goal and an assist and
Sara Yeselavage scored the first marker of her career.
Victoria Castano Colman also recorded three assists on the day.
Comp got the scoring started quickly, finding the back of the cage just 2:35 into the contest off a feed from Mattingly. The pair switched roles on the next score, with Mattingly scoring and Comp providing the helper less than two minutes later. It took just 48 seconds for Mattingly to strike again, this time off a penalty corner insertion from Castano Colman. Rucker got into the scoring act in the ninth minute off another assist from Castano Colman and Nasuta added to the lead with her first goal of the day just 33 seconds later. Rucker added another score for good measure off Castano Colman's third helper and Mattingly completed the first-quarter hat trick with 38 seconds left in the opening frame off a nice feed from
Charlotte Grove.
The Lions (9-1, 1-0 United East) played keep away for much of the second quarter but got back to it late in the third when Yeselavage pushed up from her usual spot on the back line and converted the first goal of her career off an assist from Mattingly at the 2:44 mark. Nasuta opened the fourth quarter with her second nifty goal of the day to make it 9-0 with 11:36 to play.
Lancaster Bible (2-7, 0-1 United East) finally broke through and got a marker on the board with 10:01 remaining when Rebekah Hoover finished off a feed from Riley Danko from straightaway but it was far too little too late.
