Offense Erupts in Women's Soccer's Regular Season Finale

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg's women's soccer team wrapped up the regular season with a decisive 7-0 victory over United East Conference foe Lancaster Bible on Wednesday evening, October 22.


Penn State Harrisburg (12-5-3, 8-0 United East) began the first half assertively, with Kara Slavin netting the opening goal just nine minutes into the contest, assisted by Serenity Hill. The home squad continued to pressure Lancaster Bible's defense, and Ava Myers extended the advantage with a goal in the 22nd minute, assisted by Diana Pon.


Ella Shirk added a third goal in the 38th minute with assistance from Ciera Frick, before Ava Fox capped off the half with a marker of her own thanks to an assist by Julia Hughes going into the break.


The Lions continued to extend their lead with a goal by Fox, assisted by a Pon corner attempt, at the 48th minute. Minutes later, it was Pon who found the back of the net, with Katelyn Monette providing the assist, further boosting the team's advantage. Pon struck once more in the 54th minute, with Hill setting up the play, bringing the score to 7-0.


The rest of the match saw the home team maintaining offensive pressure, including a notable attempt by Teagan Paragon that hit the crossbar in the 59th minute. The Chargers (10-5-0, 5-1 United East) managed a shot attempt in the 73rd minute but failed to find the target and the contest ended in favor of the Lions 7-0.


NOTABLES
- Pon netted a pair of goals to go along with two assists on the night.
- Fox also scored two markers against the Chargers. 
- Slavin, Myers, and Shirk all had a goal each.
- Hill tallied two helpers for the Lions, while Frick, Hughes, Monette all added an assist apiece. 
- Alexis Valenta and Alli Dietz saw action in goal for Penn State Harrisburg. 
- The Lions outshot Lancaster Bible 24-2 and topped the visitors in corners 3-2.


PLAYOFF PICTURE
Penn State Harrisburg put themselves in good position to secure the No. 1 seed in the upcoming United East Championship Tournament set to begin next week.
