BALTIMORE, Md. - Penn State Harrisburg's women's soccer team rolled to a 5-0 United East Conference victory over Notre Dame (Md.) on Wednesday afternoon, October 1.
Diana Pon led the visitors with a pair of back-to-back goals and two assists, while
Ava Fox added a goal and a helper of her own.
Serenity Hill and
Mackenzie Mowery tallied a marker each and
Julia Hughes contributed an assist.
Penn State Harrisburg's Pon opened the scoring just six minutes into the contest with a shot beyond the 18-yard box that went over the head of Gators' goalkeeper Leah Hasberry, giving the visitors a 1-0 lead. It was Pon once again who tallied a second marker 30 minutes later, thanks to an assist by Hughes. The first frame concluded with
Ava Fox adding a third goal in the 44th minute, solidifying a commanding 3-0 lead for the Lions (5-4-2, 2-0 UEC) going into halftime.
Just a minute into the second half, Hill found the back of the net and Pon had the helper on Penn State Harrisburg's fourth goal of the game. The visitors maintained offensive pressure, earning multiple corner kicks and registering several shots.
Mowery added another marker for good measure to the Lions' lead in the 79th minute, assisted by Fox, bringing the score to 5-0. Despite continued efforts from Penn State Harrisburg, including shots from
Victoria Heath and Esmerelda Hernandez, Notre Dame (Md.) (2-6-0, 1-1 UEC) was able to prevent any further scoring and the contest concluded 5-0 in favor of the visitors.Â
