Women's Basketball Avenges Early Season Loss to Gallaudet

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - Fueled by a 51-point swing across the second and third quarters, Penn State Harrisburg's women's basketball team defeated United East foe Gallaudet 80-64 on Tuesday night, Jan. 28.

Mikayla Coleman had a team high 22 points behind five 3-pointers, while Jordan Carpenter was just one rebound shy of a double-double and tallied 16 points. Giahny Correa added 16 points of her own and Sam Shaak rounded out the double digit scoring with 10 points and had seven boards.

After a low scoring opening quarter, Gallaudet (11-9, 8-3 United East) held a slim 14-13 advantage over Penn State Harrisburg (14-6, 8-4 United East). Within the first minute of the second frame the Lions went on a 10-0 run that included jumpers from Lauren Moffatt and Correa and a pair of 3-pointers by Carpenter and Coleman. The home team went on to score 11 more points before halftime and held the Bison to just seven points in the second quarter.

Trailing 34-21 coming out of halftime, Gallaudet was unable to match Penn State Harrisburg's volume scoring, yet the Bison still scored 20 points in the third quarter compared to the Lions' 30. With 33 seconds left in the third frame, Coleman hit two free throws to give Penn State Harrisburg their largest lead of the night as the squad was in front by 24 points.

Although the Bison outscored the Lions 23-16 in the final frame, the offensive push proved too little too late.
