Big Second Half Powers Women's Basketball Past Keystone

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg's women's basketball team used a big second half to pull away from United East foe Keystone in a 65-42 conference victory at the Capital Union Building on Wednesday night, Jan. 22.

Jordan Carpenter netted a game-high 18 points, Giahny Correa added 17 off the bench and Ali Lister was the third player to reach double figures with 13 points. Carpenter and Lister also grabbed a game-high eight rebounds each.

After watching Keystone (11-7, 5-4 United East) nearly erase an 11-point second-quarter deficit, the Lions (12-6, 6-4 United East) answered back after halftime and closed out the third quarter on a 10-4 run capped by a reverse layup by Sam Shaak that put the home team out in front 47-38 heading into the final frame.

Penn State Harrisburg dominated the fourth quarter and turned what was a back-and-forth affair in the early going into a comfortable win by night's end. Correa opened the fourth with an old-fashioned 3-point play before Lister converted back-to-back buckets to stretch the advantage to 54-38 with 8:34 remaining.

A Mikayla Coleman 3-ball put the Lions ahead by 20 and a Carpenter layup off a Lister find gave the home team its largest lead of the night at 65-40.

The Lions raced out to an 11-2 lead to begin the game and held a 21-10 edge after one but the Giants held Penn State Harrisburg to just four points in the second period and climbed back into the contest by halftime thanks to a plus-10 effort in the frame.
