LA PLUME, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg's women's basketball team opened conference play with a 57-45 road victory over United East foe Keystone on Tuesday night, Nov. 26.
Jordan Carpenter recorded her third double-double of the season with game highs of 17 points, 12 rebounds, and four assists. Mikayla Coleman added 14 points and Ali Lister finished with a dozen points and four assists.
The Lions (4-1, 1-0 United East) jumped out to a double-digit lead midway through the opening quarter thanks to a 10-0 run that included back-to-back layups from Carpenter and six straight points from Lister that made it 15-4 at the 3:44 mark.
The Giants (3-4, 0-1 United East) cut the deficit to six at the end of the first but a 3-ball from Allison Metzgar pushed the lead back to 11 midway through the second. The visitors kept Keystone at arm's length for much of the first half before the home team made a late run to pull to within 31-25 heading into halftime.
Penn State Harrisburg opened the second half with a 6-0 spurt and stretched the lead to 12 following a Carpenter steal and transition layup with 5:36 left in the third quarter. The Giants made one last push to cut the deficit to nine early in the fourth quarter but the Lions responded with an 11-1 run and pushed the advantage to as much as 56-37 following a Coleman jumper in the lane with 3:21 remaining.
