Women's Volleyball Takes Defending Champs to Five

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg's women's volleyball team went the distance with the reigning conference champions from Gallaudet before narrowly bowing out in five sets on Tuesday, Oct. 15. 

Camryn Wettstone led the Lions on offense with 12 kills, while Mackenzy Miller and Hannah DeGregory combined to tally 34 total assists from the setter position. Defensively, Kate Bukowski posted 14 digs and Emmaline Stevens had 13 of her own. DeGregory also added four service aces against the Bison. 

The first two sets of the night were largely in favor of Gallaudet (21-4, 5-0 United East) as they impressed with set wins of 25-10 and 25-13. In the third frame, Penn State Harrisburg (12-6, 3-1 United East) shined to a 25-22 victory and in turn broke the Bison's seven-game 22-set win streak. 

It was another back-and-forth battle in the fourth set until the very end, as the contest was tied 24-24 before DeGregory and Ellie Brown had consecutive kills to force the game into a fifth frame. Although the home team attempted to claw back halfway through the final set, the Bison left no doubt and sealed the overall victory 3-2. 

NOTABLES

- Wettstone had a team-high 12 kills, while Emily Miller and Alex Jurney had seven kills apiece. 

- DeGregory was all over the court for the Lions, as she tallied 16 assists, 11 digs, eight kills, and four service aces. 

- M. Miller led Penn State Harrisburg with 18 helpers and added eight digs. 

- Bukowski and Stevens combined to earn 27 digs against the Bison. 

- Gallaudet's Brielle Worley and Cassidy Perry were dominate on offense, as Worley had 25 kills and Perry tallied 15 of her own on just 25 attempts. 

WHO'S NEXT?

The Lions are back home on Thursday night, Oct. 15 for another United East Conference matchup against Penn College.
