MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – Penn State Harrisburg's women's basketball team opened the 2024-25 campaign with a convincing 78-53 non-conference victory over King's (Pa.) at the Capital Union Building on Wednesday night, Nov. 13.
Jordan Carpenter shined in her Penn State Harrisburg debut, racking up a game-high 29 points on 12-of-15 shooting from the floor. She finished one rebound shy of a double-double with nine boards. Ali Lister flirted with a triple-double, tallying nine points, a game-high 10 assists, and nine rebounds. Newcomer Mikayla Coleman and Giahny Correa also added 14 points apiece.
The Lions (1-0) jumped out to a 10-point advantage with two minutes left in the opening quarter behind a couple of Carpenter layups and a pair of 3-balls by Coleman but the Monarchs (1-1) clawed back and cut the deficit to 17-15 after one. After nearly two scoreless minutes to begin the second quarter, Sam Shaak banked home a triple to end the drought and spark an 11-0 run capped by back-to-back Lauren Moffatt jump shots before Carpenter scored 10 of the final 12 points to give the home team a comfortable 40-25 advantage at the break.
Coleman buried a trey to begin the second half and Correa netted nine in the third quarter to keep the lead at 15 heading into the final frame. Lister dished out four assists in the fourth and King's had no answer in the final 10 minutes, allowing Penn State Harrisburg to emerge with a comfortable win on opening night.
