GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg's field hockey team wrapped up the non-conference portion of its schedule with a 3-0 shutout victory at Gwynedd Mercy on Wednesday evening, Oct. 9.
Sadie Cook had a multi-goal outing, while Natalie Rocuskie recorded three total points thanks to a marker and an assist. Goalkeepers Macenzie Mulholland and Nisa Kece, along with the defensive unit also beared down, keeping the Griffins off the board despite seven shots on frame.
Rocuskie got the scoring started just four minutes into the contest, corralling a long pass from Alexis Nasuta and backhanding her attempt past GMU goalkeeper Kelly Weaver early in the opening quarter for what proved to be the game-winning tally.
The Lions (8-3) doubled the advantage less than a minute into the second period when Cook got to a blocked shot and put her rebound attempt into the back of the cage to make it 2-0. The visitors added an insurance tally before the half was through when Rocuskie found a streaking Cook for a breakaway goal with 1:31 left before the break.
After halftime, Mulholland, Kece, and the back line worked hard to protect the lead, allowing just four shots on goal in the final 30 minutes, all of which were turned away by Penn State Harrisburg's goalkeepers to preserve the blank sheet.
