Merca Clinches Match for MTEN in Exciting Finish Against Albright

READING, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg's men's tennis team earned a well fought 4-3 win against Albright this evening thanks to a clinching win from Derwin Merca. With no lights and darkness setting in, Merca closed out his match with an exciting 2-6, 6-3, 11-9 win to seal the victory for the Lions.

After the Lions of Albright secured the match's overall doubles point and took an early 1-0 lead, the Lions of Penn State won four out of the six singles matches to win the overall match decision 4-3.

Mark Hou took court one singles 6-1, 6-3 while Kevin Liang won 6-1, 6-4 at the No. 2 singles spot. Damir Cuturic won the third overall match point by winning 6-2, 7-5 at No. 3 singles.

Clayton Herb and John McCarthy both lost their matches on courts five and six, leaving court four's Derwin Merca to be the deciding point between the squads.

After dropping the first set 2-6, Merca rallied back to a 6-3 win to force the match to a third set super tiebreak. After being down 2-7, Merca fought his way back to 7-all before pulling away at the end for an 11-9 clinching win!

The Lions will be back on the courts in two days when they travel to LVC to take on the Dutchmen.
